If you are self-focused are you selfish, or self-centred?

Do you interpret focusing on yourself as a positive or a negative behaviour?

In my opinion we need to look after ourselves more. We need to focus on our self-development, to work on developing our self-love, to be more self-aware, to value our self-work and to prioritise our self-care.

Is this selfish behaviour or is it behaviour that means we can add value to others?

I believe that you can focus on yourself and still be respectful to those around you.

So often we look to fix ourselves through other people or external sources when the issue is at source.

The problem, and the solution is within ourselves.

When we focus on developing ourselves and acknowledge where we have room to grow, then paying attention to those areas and working on our personal growth means that those around us will see and feel the benefit.

I don’t believe that looking after yourself means that this should be to the detriment of other people or excluding others.

Selfish and self-centred by definition, means that you lack consideration or that you are pre-occupied with only yourself and your own needs/affairs.

Focusing on yourself can be kept in balance so that you are mindful and respectful of other people whilst still working on yourself and who you want to become.

So much of what I do is spending time helping people to realise and achieve their full potential. I help people truly live their best life, this is done by focusing on themselves. When they become better versions of themselves I know that the people around them also reap the rewards of the happier, healthier person they become.

So why do people choose not to prioritise looking after themselves? Maybe it is fear of failure, fear of change or feeling that they should prioritise others before themselves.

Sometimes they just don’t feel that they are worth investing time and energy on.

I often hear clients say that they feel that their own self development is not a priority, that their self-care is something that they do when they have time rather than something they find and make time for.

There is often a misconception that we have to invest a lot of time, energy and even money to work ourselves but this often isn’t the case.

Self-worth and self-love are both important to recognise that it is ok to prioritise looking after you.

It isn’t just ok to look after you, it is essential!
